2024 XCO Event @ PEP! June 29th 2024.

The XCO mountain bike race held at Prince Edward Park on June 29th was a thrilling testament to community spirit and athletic achievements. Hosted by the West Coast Cycling Association (WCCA), this event brought together cyclists of all ages and skill levels, transforming the newly constructed "Bowl" into a hub of excitement and competition.

From the outset, the dedication and professionalism of the Prince Edward Park staff were evident. Their preparation ensured that the venue was not only functional but also contributed to a memorable racing experience. Cyclists and spectators alike benefited from their efforts, enjoying a smoothly run event in a picturesque setting.

The turnout of racers was an excellent demonstration for the emergence of Cross Country mountain bike racing in the region. Enthusiastic riders, ranging from under 11 years old to seasoned cyclists in their 60s, eagerly took on the challenge of the course. For many, this race marked not only a chance to compete but also gave our young riders an opportunity to test their skills before upcoming major competitions, such as the Canada Cup in New Brunswick this July and the Canada Summer Games next year.

The support and coordination provided by the WCCA and its volunteers were instrumental in the event's success. Their planning ensured that every aspect of the race, from registration to course marking and safety, ran seamlessly. Volunteers' dedication shone through in their enthusiastic assistance and encouragement throughout the day, fostering a sense of camaraderie among everyone who attended this event.

Key sponsors in the event's success were Cycle Solutions, Brothers Law, Zwitchback Physiotherapy, and the Kinsmen club. Their support not only contributed to the financial viability of the race but also highlighted the community's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and athletic excellence through sports sponsorship. Thank you!

For Team NL athletes gearing up for future races, this race served as a crucial early-season test. The opportunity to compete in a competitive environment alongside riders of various ages and abilities provided invaluable experience and motivation as they prepared for future challenges.

The atmosphere at Prince Edward Park was electric, resonating with cheers of encouragement and the thrill of competitive spirit. Spectators lined the bowl and the course, offering applause and support as riders navigated a technical course full of punchy climbs, drops, jumps, and rooty single track. For participants, crossing the finish line represented not only personal achievement but also a celebration of community and sportsmanship.

As the event clued up, participants and organizers alike reflected on a day filled with triumphs, personal bests, and shared experiences. The XCO mountain bike race had not only showcased athletic talent but also strengthened our riding community and inspired future generations of cyclists.

Many thanks goes out to the organizing committee, volunteers, Prince Edward Park staff, and all participants and attendees who made this event such a memorable one! We hope to see you at another Cross Country Race again soon!
